Using The Content
This page is specifically designed for filmmakers who are working either on their own or with a small group of volunteers to market their own independent film.
Listed below are links that will show filmmakers a number of techniques for guerilla-marketing a film using only free or inexpensive tools. These links are listed here in an order that should help you to organize your work, but you can pick and choose as you like.
The links here are to resources that have been used to successfully train teams of inexperienced students or volunteers in how to become marketers of films that are playing in a film festival. But the materials we’ve assembled can help even if you’re not screening at a festival. Even if you’re simply planning a one-night screening in a local theater, or if your film will soon be available for download on the Internet, this page should have useful materials.
At the Film Fest Marketing Project (FFMP), we realize that individual filmmakers (especially filmmakers with little money and perhaps no committed helpers) may just want guidance in how to reach out to the media or how to build a presence online. This page is for them.
In addition to the materials listed here we highly recommend Jon Reiss’s game-changing book: Think Outside The Box Office.
